site selection and facilities location: ... a phrase that brings together two definitions related to enterprise development. They are essentially the same in terms of the work done to make them happen. A site selection project is successfully executed when a location or real estate site is found that matches a set of criteria such that it is acceptable to the enterprise developer in charge. Site selection means a place or item of real property which has been chosen. A facilities location project or facilities location is successfully executed likewise. Facilities location means that a site for constructing, affixing or otherwise placing a process, stationary equipment, structure(s) is selected. Site selection may identify an enterprise development project to find an available building or facilities to lease or purchase. On the other hand, using the expression, facilities location project, implies that a search is on to find something already in place that can be put to use or is available to retrofit.
