location, location, location :

... an expression emphasizing the importance of location with respect to the value of commercial and industrial real estate. Answers.com relates location, location, location to the value of commercial real estate in urban areas. It's definition states that the ... value of real estate depends largely on where it is. Considerations, such as access to a labor pool and incentive offers, are important location value points when site selectors search for places of interest for real estate other than for retail. In his book, Business Geography and New Real Estate Market Analysis (2002, Oxford University Press), Grant Thrall, PhD provides a definition of business geography. The Network referred to the definition when asked what a former corporate real estate executive meant by at one time saying that location, location, location ... is only pertinent if a certain geography is targeted (source of quote). countries as locations:

See the definition of location identity as it relates to our (who we are) appeal to .network users to offer their suggestions of places of interest throughout the world. You and other users can help build The Network as a resource for enterprise and economic development by suggesting locations. We accommodate those who may hesitate, thinking that they may have to provide personal information along with their suggestions, by offering a simple set of instructions by which they can email us anonymously. Please review the instructions and email a suggestion.

The Economic Development Network website has a global list of nations. There is where we start the process of responding to suggestions to list places of interest. If you access the list of nations to find that a country of interest to you does not show a link, all you need to do is to email us its name as a location identity. If you would like to see a city-region or smaller places within a country listed, simply identify them to us in the memo section of your email. If you know of websites of location data suppliers or economic development organizations for the county, region within, or other places within, such as places seeking economic development, we would appreciate receiving URLs as well. The EDN website is a part of a share network.

The website provides access to directories of development organizations by global regions. The Network is a directory of associations with a focus on enterprise and economic development. Comments about various associations and links to websites of interest to members of the .network core user group are scattered among other resources that support its mission. The best way to find out if an association of interest to you is included is to search. In the event that you search, but do not readily find what you want, contact us by email and provide its name.

open site selection directory project:

The Network is an open access resource for enterprise development. Site Selection is a process of enterprise development. Building The Network as a resource for users who participate in its mission is an ongoing project. In terms of site selection, perhaps the most important project is its Global Registry of Contacts. As the name implies, the GRC is a contact directory. GRC information published initially online to support .network user searches includes listing places of interest to site selectors. As such, the GRC could just as well be called a site selection directory. It lists location data suppliers and provides links to their contact information upon request (or mission contacts who register with the GRC can arrange to have links in place so that those who want to get in touch can do so directly). In any event, temporary links to contact data as well as location profiles are created as a free service for users who request them.

Users contribute to the open site selection directory project of The Network by suggesting listings or places seeking economic development and other locations around the word in position to accommodate enterprise development. See countries as locations above.

of offers the Site Selection Directory as such a project. It's free to site selectors and enterprise developers for publishing, for example project profiles and location data requests online. In order to provide access to additional information that may help you zero in on a meaning of the expression for your purposes, we Google the following keywords: site selection "open directory"

site selection data standards:

... a data set with over 1,200 informational elements organized into 25 spreadsheets (source of quote) which can be downloaded from the website of the International Economic Development Council (IEDC). Use of the standards is advocated by the IEDC leadership in order for economic development practitioners and other location data suppliers to show a unified front as they provide information to site location consultants. A development alliance came up with the standards which are especially applicable for organizing location profiles.

Advocating standardization is an organized effort to makes the site selector's task of comparative analysis easier. Standardization facilitates being able to better make apples to apples comparisons of information about places of interest. Jay Garner of Garner Economics, LLC, Atlanta, GA, is quoted here from the IEDC website:

For communities to attract new facilities in today’s highly competitive environment, they need reliable, comprehensive data that can be quickly provided to corporate location professionals. Economic development professionals working collaboratively with corporate relocation professionals have devised a comprehensive site selection data template to guide communities with data collection, analysis and delivery. The end goal: to adopt the template as the industry standard for the site selection process.

The standards are more or less guidelines. Some location data is prepared by adhering as closely as possible to the standards, some by referring only to the 25 spreadsheets. We (who we are) attempt to provide complimenting information through The Network by continuously reviewing the websites of location data suppliers. We take a look at how the various websites present their information. We are also continuously building a site selection directory that lists the various categories of informational items that those who supply location data use. Our purpose is to give .network users a comprehensive reference to what's available to help them gather the information they need as site selectors.
